I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

John 8:12

The Lamplighter

April 09

He is risen!  Alleluia!

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.”

2009 Prophecy Campaign continues

50 Days to Live!

What would YOU do?

Dear church family,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We are right in the middle of our prophecy campaign and things are going well.  What if you only have 50 days to live?!  What would you do?  What would you do differently?  Should you make some life changes?  Would you make some decisions that could make an eternal difference?  These are the sorts of questions we are asking ourselves.

As we are digging into the details of what God has told us will happen in the future we should let it change our lives.  Peter said, “seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness” (2 Peter 3:11).  We should always let God’s Word have its effect on us.  We shouldn’t just study it to add to our list of things we know.  Holy living and godliness are the things Jesus desires.

In the next few Sundays we will be concluding this prophecy series.  If you have missed any of the services they are now available on CD’s that you can check out of our library.

Hope to see you Sunday,

Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf

THANK YOU!

To everyone who has been generously supplying our food closet with non-perishable food donations and hygiene products.  Lately our church family has been providing food to many people.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

Live with Urgency:  Sowing Together for Harvest

John 4:35-37 NIV—“Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true.”

With nearly three out of every four people in the United States, Canada and their territories living without a personal relationship with Christ, it is easy to see how urgently people need to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. North America is filled with fields ready for harvest and fields ready to be sown—or resown—with the eternal message of the gospel. Who is sowing the gospel seeds to reach them?

Our North American missionaries, in partnership with state conventions, associations, and local churches are living out the call God has placed on their lives by moving out of their comfort zones into the unsown fields of North America. They are creatively and actively seeking common ground with unbelievers so they can share the gospel and reap a harvest for his glory.

Together, we can pray for our North American missionaries, give sacrificially to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, and work alongside our Southern Baptist missionaries and do our part to sow the gospel in our own communities.

During the Easter season, consider how you can “Live with Urgency” and impact the Kingdom of God through your continued prayers, giving, and going in this urgent task God has called us to carry out. Pray for these missionaries who represent the dedicated work of thousands like them.

Our national Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goal is $65 million.  Our church goal is $1,750.

PTL!  For $1,456 given as of March 22.

Bench donated

in memory of Ed WATSON

Betty Jackson’s Sunday School class had donated an outdoor bench to the church in memory of Ed Watson, Esther Watson’s late husband.  The bench will be located under the portico entrance at the real of the church. The ladies thought that people who are waiting for a ride may sit on the bench while waiting

Modern day disciples—ordinary men used by God

We may have expected Jesus to take a different approach when choosing the 12 men that would have “full power of attorney” to speak and act on Jesus’ behalf after His death and resurrection.  You would think He would look for the most influential, political, gifted and talented men.  Instead He chose a small group of fishermen, farmers, a tax collector, etc.—a diverse group of “ordinary” men who knew each other.  Jesus looked at them and said, “These will do. I will do the “empowering.”

Jesus is still seeking “ordinary” men and women to carry on His work here on earth.  He looks for willing hearts and then “empowers” those hearts to do the work He has called them to do.

Once again I have had the privilege of choosing 12 men to represent the first chosen 12.  These men have committed to practicing each Sunday after church so that the Gospel may be presented in a new creative way.

The Lord’s Last Last Supper Re-enactment has been set for Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009, 8:30am and 11am.  All who come will be truly blessed.

Drama team, it is vital to our production that you attend the final practices/dress rehearsals.  Satan is alive and well and will do anything to keep us from doing this drama.  Please make every effort to be at both dress rehearsals, March 28 and April 4 (time to be announced—whatever works best for the drama team).  Tim Glace would like to video the dress rehearsal so we can have a DVD to share with the church family.  Please mark your calendars and let me know what time best suits you on the rehearsal dates, March 28 & April 4) and then we’ll better know what will suit everyone.

In Christ’s service,

Patricia Culver,

Drama Director

Children are having a galactic star-studded exploration

Children’s Worship and the leaders are truly will be having a galactic star-studded time as we explore space and God’s creation the next few months.

Each cadet starts each service by singing Psalm 147:4-5.  “He telleth the number of the stars.  He calleth them all by their names.  Great is our Lord, and of ‘Great Power’ His understanding is infinite” Psalm 147:4-5.  A big thanks goes to Jane Brandenburg who has played the guitar and worked with the group each week.

Flight Attendant “Mel” Glace has out of this world questions to get the boys and girls prepared for our adventure.  Each week, through Bible quizzes, games, and stories, each of us will become a little closer to the Creator of the universe.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable “gifts” and “take time to look up.”

In Christ’s service,

Patricia Culver

We need some great pictures of mothers

We'd like to put together a slide show to honor mothers for Mothers’ Day. We would love to include any pictures you have of your mother or a mother you know.  We can scan the pictures in the church office and your picture/s will not be harmed in any way.

Take a few moments and look through pictures you may have.  We would especially like to have pictures of moms doing regular, ordinary activities, like playing with the kids or doing things around the house.   You know, the kind of things that get taken for granted, but the things that really mean the most after all!

Hey guys!  This is the perfect opportunity to recognize your wife and/or mother.  Start looking through those pictures and get them to us A.S.A.P.

Here are instructions for submitting a picture:

Please write a brief description of who’s in the picture/s &/or a brief explanation of photo.

CLEARLY IDENTIFY EACH PICTURE.  Please write information on a separate paper (or, use a post-it placed on the back of the photo).

Please put the picture/s you submit in an envelope with your name on the envelope and place it the offering plate.

You may also email pictures to the church office:  fbcne@verizon.net.

Deadline for submitting pictures is May 1.

  Cooperative Program in action

April 26—Cooperative Program (CP) Day  Southern Baptists are a fellowship of over 16 million members in approximately 44,696 churches in all 50 states and Canada. These churches work together through approximately 1,186 associations, 42 state conventions, and the Southern Baptist Convention to accomplish through voluntary cooperation far more than they could ever do alone.  Working together Southern Baptists saw 955,909 new believers baptized in 2006!

The Southern Baptist worldwide missions enterprise is funded in large part through the unique, efficient, and equitable Cooperative Program. A portion of the undesignated tithes and offerings of individuals received by SBC churches becomes Cooperative Program dollars.  First Baptist Church of North East gives 10% of its tithes (general fund) to the CP.  In other words for every $10 of tithes $1 goes to the CP.
