I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

John 8:12

February 2008 Lamplighter

Moyer ordained to the Gospel Ministry

We are pleased to announce:

Chris MOYER was ordained to the work of the Gospel Ministry on Sun., January 6, 2008, @ the 11am worship service.  Our pastors and deacons participated in the Ordination Ceremony.  An Ordination Council met on January 5, 2008, and unanimously voted  in favor of the ordination after  they “grilled” the candidate.   Our church has affirmed the ordination.

Rev. Chris Moyer is now serving as Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Perryville.

Chris is married to Dr. Stephen and Janet Hokuf’s daughter, Laura.  She’ll be supporting Chris and serving @ First Baptist Church of Perryville.

Hokuf is on sabbatical

After serving 27 years as our pastor, Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf, is currently on sabbatical—a time of rest.  He’ll return to our church family on March 3, 2008.

In the mean time ALL matters that require pastoral care/attention must be addressed to Pastor Dan Mohler.  Our deacons will be happy to help you, as well.

Kat wants you to know . . .

We’ll I’m happy to report that Brother Mouse didn’t get packed in one of the Operation Christmas Child boxes.  He’s been lying low as mouse traps have been spotted around the church.  He instructed me to remind the church family that February is the month of LOVE.

Speaking of LOVE.  I LOVED the children’s Christmas program, “Angel Alert.”  Everyone was FANTASTIC!  It was the BIGGEST and BEST EVER!  Another round of applause is in order.

I suppose I’ve been running up and down the chain in the church elevator too much—so much that the chain was loose and the elevator wouldn’t work.  Gerrit Hopman and Lib Lewis came to the rescue and repaired it— saving over $500 in repair bills.

B-R-R-R-R—Recently, Jesus Loves Me Childcare Center’s heat wasn’t working.  Eric and  Rick Jackson came to the rescue.  All is back to normal. Thanks, guys.

Finally, in my loudest mouse voice:  TEACHERS/HELPERS ARE NEEDED.  I hear our Sunday School needs teachers—grade 4 and College & Career classes.  They serve weekly on Sundays @ 9:45am. And, the Sunbeams needs leaders and helpers.  They serve one Sunday per month @ 11:00am during worship time.

Custom Garage Opening Soon

This winter the Children’s Worship team leaders and boys and girls will be opening their own Custom Garage—a place where kids learn to love God and serve others.  The garage will be owned and operated by the Children’s Worship staff and kids.

Each week the mechanics and crew members will be learning Bible lessons.  We’ll all learn how we can use our talents to serve others.  We’ll be challenged to equip a 1977 Blazer to be sent over to the mission field.   And, we’ll be finding ways to earn money to help purchase the “Proclaimers” that are used to take God’s Word to places where they have no electricity.

At our Custom Garage we’ll have Tool Talk, Service Center, Tune Ups, Gearshift Games and a Filling Station.  We know that the entire crew will have road map maneuvers that will last.

So grab your tool box children grades 1-5 and come be a part of the Custom Garage team. Kids, come for a life changing customized Bible-based fun.   Adults—we need someone to cover our 4th Sunday activities.

We pray for God’s blessings upon all who enter our new Custom Garage.

Loving God/Serving Others,

Patricia Culver,

Children’s Worship

We’re looking for a few men

Due to the positive response last Easter, the Agape¢ Players will again be doing the re-enactment of the Lord’s Last Supper.  Easter comes early this hear, March 23, so we must start.  I have spoken to some of the men that performed last year and I’m so thankful for their positive response.  Maybe some of the other men would like to be considered for a part.  Each speaking part is very short (disciples introduce themselves).  Jesus and a few disciples have longer parts.  We’re always in need of extra men (those that fill in when actors can’t perform).  To qualify you need to be between the ages of 25-40 and willing to give up Saturdays in February and March for practices, 9am-12 noon.  You also need to commit to:

Wear a Biblical costume (We have our own this year thanks to our seamstress, Carol Singleton.)

1st practice will be Sat., February 2, 9am-12noon.  (We’ll decide when the other practice dates will be.)

Dress rehearsal, March 15, 9a-12noon.

Commit to 2 or more performances—production, Palm Sunday, March 16 (both services @ 8:30am & 11am)—possibly another performance—to be announced.

This will be an all male production—actors, prop men and musicians.

This play not only blesses all that see it; but, it blesses all the performers, as well.  Pray God will be honored by all we do.

In Christ’s Service,

Patricia Culver

My heart overflows with love,
Fashioned in our courtship
Planted in our marriage
Blossoming in our children.

A love that has been
Pruned by life's realities and
Strengthened by its triumphs.

A love that has grown because the
Responsibility and freedom
To give and to receive
Have been shared.

A love that continues to seek its Source
In the sunshine of
God's Love -

For it is there that we find
Our reason for being and
Our reason for loving!
