Dear church family,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Last month we told you about our proposed ordination of Brian Musser to the gospel ministry.  Well, all went as planned.  The ordination council met and spent over three hours questioning Brian about his conversion, calling, doctrine, daily walk with the Lord, and/or anything they wanted to ask.  The council was unanimous in their decision to commend him in this step.

On Sunday morning, June 6, in the public worship service we officially ordained Rev. Brian Musser.  The Biblical example for this religious ceremony is in Acts 13.  The early New Testament church of Antioch was calling their first missionaries to service.

Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers . . . . As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said “Separate me Barnabas and Paul for the work unto which I have called them.”  And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them they sent them away (Acts 13:1-3).

Notice, first of all, that it was God who called these men.  The church recognized, obeyed, and put its stamp of approval on them.

Second, notice that God chose men who were already busy at work in some sort of ministry.  They had demonstrated their willingness and ability to serve the Lord.

Third, notice that the Holy Spirit asked the church to publicly and openly do this official recognition of God’s choice.  The laying on of hands seems to be the visible symbol of “ordination”.  In the New Testament ordination it was not so much to an office, but a recognition of approval and support.  Paul told Timothy, “lay hands suddenly on no man” (1 Timothy 5:22).  Once this initial step is taken there is to be an on going relationship between the church and the one ordained.  That is why it is not to be done hastily.

In our church, over the years, we have ordained a number of men to the gospel ministry.  They have gone on to be pastors, missionaries, chaplains, etc.  Brian Musser is one of our North American missionaries serving on the campus of Drexel University.  We have been sending Brian missionary support for a number of years.  I encourage you to pray for him regularly.  From time to time we will have him come to speak in our services and report on the work he is doing.

Our desire is to fulfill the great commission.  Jesus told us to go into all of the world and preach the gospel.  This is one of the many ways God is using us to do just that.

Serving the Lord,

Pastor Stephen D. Hokuf

Cecil County Pregnancy Center

I wonder . . .

by Pastor Dan Mohler

I wonder if the caterpillar ever yearns for wings before it knows of wings.  Does it wonder at the beautiful butterfly as it flits about, seemingly on the wings of joy, while it is stuck on the branch searching for its daily meal?  Does it then wonder at its own yearning?  Perhaps it has even tried to lift itself off of the branch.  Oh, how it wants to fly!

It reminds me of the innocent girls and young women who yearn to be loved and cherished and who too early try to lift themselves off the branch in search of their wings of cherished love.  They only yearn to fly like the beautiful butterfly, but too often those who love too early discover their love is unrequited by those who have also not yet discovered their wings.

When girls and young women come to the center, often confused about which direction to go and sometimes considering abortion, they are presented with the alternatives and educated regarding the help available to them.  Our record shows that the majority of the time these young women choose life

. . . .

CCPC is a diamond in the rough.  The quality of the service is outstanding, but we operate on a shoe string. . . .

The people of Cecil County have a jewel which only needs to be shined.  I am looking for quality people who believe in the mission of the center . . . .

You may be asking yourself, “What can I do?”  I am asking you to call me at 302 275-0497.  I am planning on starting an auxiliary group which will meet once a quarter with the purpose of supporting the critical work of CCPC.  Come and help us celebrate new life.

This summer: 3 DVD Showings

America’s Godly Heritage—David Barton

Sun., June 27, 6pm

America’s Godly Heritage clearly sets forth the beliefs of many of the famous Founding Fathers concerning the proper role of Christian principles in education, in government, and in the public affairs of the nation.  The beliefs of Founders like George Washington, John Adams, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Wilson, George Mason, John Quincy Adams, and many other are clearly presented.

America’s Godly Heritage also provides excerpts from court cases showing that for 160 years Christian principles were part of official American public life.  You’ll see numerous charted statistics showing what has happened to America since the courts began rejecting the Founders’ beliefs.

America’s Godly Heritage is an excellent primer for those who want to know more about what was intended for America by the Founders and what can be done to return America to its original guiding philosophy.

How Great is Our God—Louie Giglio

Sun., July 18, 6pm

Your life is a miracle, and the Creator of the universe knows you by name.  He’s big enough to breathe out stars, yet intricate enough to fashion together the trillions of cells that make up every facet of who you are.  The God who spoke the universe into existence made you, too, and knows everything about you.  From the smallest molecule to the situation you find yourself in right now.  He’s aware of your circumstances and intimately acquainted with everything you do.  And He cares about you and promises to carry you through.

That’s where we find hope in the midst of the darkest places in life.  The journey is often complicated and painful, filled with confusion and chaos.  Yet, the cross of Christ reveals God’s promise to preserve and restore you no matter what the circumstance.  He will hold onto you and hold you together, giving strength to those who hope in His unfailing love.

He is the everlasting God!
