He Could Show Up Any Minute!

By Pastor Dan Mohler

“Celebrate God all day, every day, I mean, revel in him!  Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them.  Help them see that the Master is about to arrive.  He could show up any minute!” Philippians 4 (The Message).

“I say to God, ‘Be my Lord!’  Without you, nothing makes sense.  My choice is you, God, first and only.  And now I find I’m your choice!  You set me up with a house and yard.

And then you made me your heir!  The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake is confirmed by my sleeping heart.  Day and night I’ll stick with God; I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.  I’m happy from the inside out and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.  Now you’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face.  Ever since you took my hand, I’m on the right way!”  Psalm 16 (The Message).

“My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness.  I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words” Psalm 45 (The Message).

“God you’re my God!  I can’t get enough of you!  So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory.  In your generous love I am really living at last!  My lips brim praises like fountains.  I bless you every time I take a breath; my arms wave like banners of praise to you.  I hold on to you for dear life and you hold me steady as a post.”

Dear church family,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is with great joy and gladness of heart that I send you this letter.  Sophia Joy Moyer made her grand entrance into the world April 14th.  Janet and I are proud grandparents of this latest bundle of joy.  This is Chris and Laura’s first child.  Never has a little girl had such loving and devoted parents.

The psalmist tells us that children are an heritage from the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is His reward” (Psalm 127:3).  Thank you Jesus for the gracious gift of new life in the face of our children.  I hope all of you are able to enjoy children somewhere in your lives.  Some have them in their home, others in their children’s homes, or here at church.  Wherever, children are a gift from the Lord.

Along with such a treasure comes great responsibility.  The apostle Paul commands us to “bring them up in the nurture (discipline) and admonition (instruction) of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).  That can take most of our time and effort, as well as all of the love and grace that we have.  To accomplish this task can take decades, but will reap benefits for generations to come.

A united and committed Christian couple can best do what God asks.  Malachi says this:  “Has not the Lord made them one?  In flesh and spirit they are His.  And why one?  Because He was seeking a godly offspring.  So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break forth with the wife of your youth.  “I hate divorce,” says the Lord God of Israel” (Malachi 2:15-16).  A godly offspring is one of the main purposes of a Christian marriage.  Satan’s purpose from the beginning has been to destroy and break up the home.  But we are not ignorant of his devices.  So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith.

Let’s be sure that our church is a place where children are taught God’s word and shown His love.  Let’s encourage these young parents and their progeny in every way we can.

Your brother in Christ,

Dr. Stephen D. Hokuf

P.S.  Pastor Walid Bitar of Ottawa, Canada, has invited our church to minister to them during their annual retreat.  We have agreed to provide a Vacation Bible School-type ministry for the children while the adults attend meetings, etc.  Dr. Hokuf will be preaching, as well.  We need team members.  The dates are May 21-25.  Bitar’s church takes care of accommodations, food, etc.  A PASSPORT IS REQUIRED!

Here’s a little tidbit:   I wish all of you could’ve seen Jane Hopman and  Judy Veasey get a wedding pulled together for Dave Parsons and Misty Reese.  Jane & Judy  were flitting around and jabbering faster than ever.  Just imagine that!  All went well.  It was a job well done!!!  I especially enjoyed the wedding; and, of course, the cake crumbs.
